Clinical Supervision

Compassionate, psychodynamic supervision and reflective practice

Jon Martyn · In person in Sheffield, and online

I offer a thoughtful and supportive space for reflection, curiosity and professional development, for therapists and others working with complex trauma and a range of mental health needs.

Email me about supervision

My approach

My approach to supervision is compassionate and psychodynamic. Together we think about the emotional, social and economic dimensions of your work, as well as what is happening between you and the people you see.

I'm particularly interested in how trauma, marginalisation, culture and identity shape therapeutic relationships, and in supporting practice that is anti-oppressive and trauma-informed.

I offer psychodynamic, art therapy and trauma-informed supervision. Art-making is not a requirement of my supervision or reflective practice, though it is available if it would be useful to you.

Experience

I have practised as an HCPC-registered art psychotherapist since 2008 and have offered clinical supervision and staff support since 2010. My work has spanned the NHS, community settings, charities, higher education and private practice.

I have been Clinical Lead at Share Psychotherapy, lectured on the MA Art Psychotherapy programme at Goldsmiths, University of London, and co-founded the New Art Studio, a therapeutic art studio for refugees. I bring that experience of leading services, teaching and working with displacement and adversity to supervision.

I'm trained to Level 4 in EMDR and am currently in the first year of a two-year specialist training, Complex Trauma: the Tavistock Model (2026–28).
